Woman dies in ‘tragic’ three-vehicle crash on A46 near Newark which closed road for 16 hours

A woman has died in a three-vehicle crash on the A46 in Nottinghamshire[1] which saw the dual carriageway close for most of the day. Emergency services were called to a collision involving two cars and a van near Screveton[2] around 10.30pm on Saturday November 23. A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics, Nottinghamshire Police[3] said.

The road, near Newark, remained shut southbound while investigations took place before being reopened at around 3pm. Sergeant Mark Baker said police want to hear from anyone who can assist with information or relevant dashcam footage. “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with this woman’s family and loved ones at an incredibly distressing time,” he said. “They will be supported by specially trained officers.

Our investigation into the causes of the collision is at a very early stage and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.

“I would also like to thank motorists for their patience while road closures were in place.” Anyone who can assist should call police on 101, quoting incident number 643 of 23 November 2024, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
