Woman suffers ‘serious injuries’ as cops arrest trucker and shut off town centre
Police have arrested a trucker after a pedestrian was left with 'serious injuries' following a town centre collision. Emergency services had been called out to Ashbourne where roads were taped off.
Now Derbyshire Police have revealed how an HGV driver has been arrested following Wednesday afternoon's incident. Meanwhile the pedestrian, a woman in her 20s, remains in hospital.
Officers and paramedics were called out to Buxton Road at around 12.15pm following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a truck. Subsequently St John’s Street at the junction with the A515 was shut off as an investigation got underway.
Following the collision the driver of the HGV, a man in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop after an accident.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: "He has been released under investigation as enquiries continue. We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision as well as anyone who has dashcam footage."
