A39 closed after lorry and pedestrian crash near hospital

A road was closed after a crash involving a pedestrian and a lorry near North Devon District Hospital this afternoon (Thursday, December 5). A stretch of the A39 Shirwell Road northbound carriageway[1] was shut and motorists were urged to avoid the area. The crash took place near the B3230 turn off for Ilfracombe.

The road reopened and traffic returned to normal by 4.35pm. Devon Alert said in a post on X at 2.49pm: "There has been an RTC on the A39 near the junction of the B3230, please avoid the area if possible due to lane closures." This is a live blog.
