Appeal after A47 crash near Wisbech leaves one man seriously injured and sees four arrests

Four people have been arrested and bailed as police issue an appeal for witnesses to a crash on the A47 yesterday. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after the collision, which happened at around 5.40am near Wisbech[1], left a man with serious injuries. A grey Audi A4, heading towards Wisbech, collided with a grey Lexus IS, heading in the opposite direction, at South Brink, between Guyhirn and Wisbech.

The driver of the Lexus, a 28-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in King's Lynn, suffering from serious injuries before being taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge.

Three men travelling in the Audi were not seriously injured while another man did not remain at the scene. A red Kia Stonic and a blue Land Rover Freelander were also involved, with the drivers suffering minor injuries. Sergeant Mark Atkins said: "I would like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage or saw the vehicles involved before the collision.

"I would also like to appeal directly to a lorry driver who may have seen the vehicles involved just before the collision."

Fire crews from Wisbech and March also attended the incident and a spokesperson for Cambridgeshire fire service said: "Firefighters arrived to find a collision involving eight vehicles. Using specialist equipment they released a casualty who was left in the care of ambulance crews. "The crews returned to their stations by 7.20am."

The men arrested included a 30-year-old from Wisbech, who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, a 25-year-old of no fixed abode on suspicion of causing injury through dangerous driving and driving with excess drugs, a 25-year-old from Grays in Essex on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and a 25-year-old of no fixed address, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol and excess drugs. They were all bailed to March 19 pending further inquiries.
