Bus driver involved in serious crash with HGV released without charges
A large number of police and emergency services were present on Lockheed Road in Burtonwood following a crash involving a bus and an HGV at around 5.22am yesterday morning, Wednesday. It is unclear as to how the collision occurred, but Cheshire Police confirmed six casualties were taken to hospital with injuries, with one passenger found to be trapped on the bus having to be rescued by fire crews. Sadly, a 73-year-old man was among those injured in the crash and is said to have suffered injuries to his leg that are thought to be 'life-changing'.
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Services said: "One patient suffered suspected serious injuries. Four suffered minor injuries "Another was taken to the hospital for further assessment."
A bus collided with a HGV on Lockheed Road in Burtonwood (Image: Adam Siek) Following the incident, which saw Burtonwood Road partially closed by police for the morning and in turn caused delays across Warrington and along the M62 near to Burtonwood, the driver of the bus was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and causing serious injury.
However, in a recent update provided by Cheshire Police, it has been confirmed that no charges have been made against the bus driver and he has been released under investigation.
Appealing for information in relation to the collision, a spokesperson said: "Anyone with any information in relation to this incident, is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via the website www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us[1], quoting IML-1987170."
