Crash on M6 northbound leads to diesel spillage and huge delays

Emergency services were called to the incident near junction 19, Knutsford, at around 7.30am. The crash involved a crash and a van. During this, a fuel tank was ruptured which caused a diesel spillage.

As a result, traffic was temporarily held twice. Three lanes were closed for the majority of the morning. Huge queues built up with 13 miles of congestion being reported.

And there were delays of one hour and 30 minutes. All lanes were reopened as of 12.40pm. A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews were called to a road traffic collision on the M6 Northbound between junction 18 to 19.

"Police closed the road while dealing with the incident.

"Firefighters assisted with a fuel leak using a portable dam and specialist paste, and used brushes and a hose reel jet to clear the spillage."
