Queues on the M62 tonight

There were queues of more than five miles after a crash on the M62[1] this evening. It happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 22 for Saddleworth[2] and junction 23 for Huddersfield.

Traffic was stopped following the smash at around 6:15pm as highways officers dealt with the aftermath.

This saw tailbacks stretching more than five miles form.

Traffic was released around 40 minutes later however the congestion has not yet cleared.

At the height of the queues delays were in excess of 45 minutes.

The traffic service Inrix says that there is still queueing traffic with delays of more than 20 minutes still being reported.

The crash happened very close to where a lorry carrying sawdust caught fire on Friday. morning That saw the motorway closed for more than 12 hours eastbound as fire crews battled the flames and specialists carried out a complicated recovery operation.
