Five new cameras across city for speeding and traffic light control

Roads such as Malpas Road, that used to have just a red light camera, have had their former red light cameras replaced with technology that captures both red light jumping as well as speeding. Chepstow Road into Wharf Road has also had a new speed and red light camera installed, despite not having any cameras there before. Other places that are affected by the installation of this new technology include the A48 in Langstone, the A4042 Kingsway, and the George Street Bridge junction.

A spokesperson for NCC said: "The council together with Go Safe are installing a number of new and replacement traffic cameras in the city to enforce existing speed limits and control traffic lights. "The new cameras will be placed in the following locations:

  • A48 Langstone - Existing speed camera upgraded to a digital speed camera

  • A4042 Kingsway - Existing speed camera upgraded to a digital speed camera

  • A4051 Malpas Road and Bettws Lane - Existing red-light cameras upgraded to digital speed and red-light cameras

  • George Street Bridge/Wharf Road/Corporation Road junction - Existing red-light cameras upgraded to digital speed and red-light cameras

  • Wharf Road/Chepstow Road - New digital speed and red-light cameras"
