Inquest into death of High Legh grandad killed in A50 crash
Douglas Frank Burke died age 85 following a crash on the A50 near his home in High Legh earlier this year. A written inquest into his death was heard at Cheshire Coroner's Court on Wednesday (December 12). The court heard how on November 20, 2023, Mr Burke was struck as a pedestrian by moving traffic on the A50.
He sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene, near the junction of Swineyard Lane, opposite The Bear's Paw Inn. His medical cause of death was given as 'multiple injuries', with the conclusion given as 'road traffic collision'. Mr Burke was born in Warrington in 1938.
Later living in High Legh, he had been enjoying his retirement with his wife prior to the fatal crash last November[1]. A tribute shared by his family shortly after read: "On Monday, November 20, Douglas Burke tragically died after being involved in a road traffic accident in Cheshire. "Douglas was enjoying his retirement, travelling around the UK and Europe when not playing golf or meeting with friends.
"He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandad, and we are all heartbroken by his loss.
"He will be missed by many people around the world."
