Live A500 updates as smash shuts D-road

Motorists are facing delays on the A500 following a collision this morning. The incident through Porthill had first saw the northbound stretch shut off. However one lane was later reopened - but queues remain.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix had issued an alert at around 6.30am to say part of the northbound stretch had been shut. StokeonTrentLive has since visited the scene where a car looks to have left the carriageway between the bridge and the northbound slip-road. A little further along and police have been seen by a truck.

It is not known whether the two incidents are linked. Queues have been going back towards Wolstanton and Etruria this morning before traffic is flowing freely once it is past the lane closure at Porthill. Meanwhile the A50 is currently gridlocked in both directions through the Potteries.
