LIVE: Long A66 tailbacks with ‘traffic at a standstill’ after collision involving car and HGV

Reports are coming in of traffic almost at a standstill following a crash on the A66 in Middlesbrough. A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Traffic is heavy on the A66 westbound near to the Newport turn off, due to a two vehicle collision between a car and a HGV. "It is likely that the road will be closed shortly to recover the lorry.

Please take another route and avoid the area if possible. We will update you when the road is clear and reopened. Thank you for your patience."
