Live: Mile-long traffic queues after Cheddar crash
A371 temporarily closed after lorry tipped on its side, police say
The A371 was temporarily closed this morning after a lorry tipped on its side and some oil spilled into the road, Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed. A police spokesperson said: "The A371 in Cheddar by the Shipham Cross Roads, known locally as the Magic Roundabout, has been closed this morning (Tuesday 10 December) following a road-related incident. "A lorry has tipped onto its side and some oil has spilled onto the road.
Thankfully, we do not believe anyone was injured in the incident. "Officers and colleagues from the fire service are on the scene and are working to clear the road and recover the lorry. The road has been closed in both directions while this is being done."
The road closure was lifted at 8.30am, with an update on Inrix now reading: "A371 Axbridge Road in both directions partially blocked, queuing traffic due to accident from Tower Road to Black Lane.
Sensors show traffic is now passing the scene."
