Live traffic updates as lorry overturns closing Liverpool road

People are being urged to avoid an area of Liverpool due to an overturned lorry. Police confirmed that Speke Road is closed in both directions as they deal with the incident. The closure has been in place[1] since around 6.10am when police were called to Speke Road.

The incident will cause traffic chaos[2] as we approach rush hour and the force is advising people to avoid also using Speke Boulevard A spokesperson for Merseyside Police[3] said: " We can confirm that a road closure is in place in Speke due to an incident this morning, Thursday 19 December. At around 6.10am, officers were called to Speke Road, near to the Knowsley Expressway, following a report that a HGV vehicle had overturned.

"Speke Road is now closed in both directions while we deal with this incident. Please avoid the area including Speke Boulevard if possible and thank you for your patience." ECHO[4] reporter Olivia Williams is on her way to the scene and we will be providing live traffic updates throughout the morning.

Traffic site Inrix says: "A562 Speke Road Eastbound partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry involved from A561 Speke Boulevard (Halewood) to A5300 Knowsley Expressway (Widnes).
