Police attended the scene where the car driver reported injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention and arrangements were made to recover his vehicle.

The injuries are not described as life-threatening. All lanes have now reopened, but there are still delays of around an hour in the area. Traffic backed up to Junction 6 of the A229 at Blue Bell Hill and National Highways officers attended.

People have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys this morning.

Normal traffic conditions are expected by 9.30am.
