Mother and daughter Cheryl Woods, 61, and Sarha Smith, 40, both died in an incident on the M4, between junction 17 at Chippenham and junction 18 at Bath, on October 20, 2023. The pair, both of Caerphilly, were involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the route that prompted a large emergency service response. Firas Zeineddine, of Bluebell Drive in Keynsham, has now been charged with two counts of death by dangerous driving.
He is due to appear in court at a later date. Cheryl Woods and Sarha Smith (Image: Wiltshire Police) Cheryl Woods and Sarha Smith were travelling in a Volkswagen T-Roc at the time of the crash while Zeineddine was driving a Tesla. Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, including a lorry which could be seen overturned.
The eastbound carriageway of the motorway was shut for much of the day. In a family tribute following the incident, Cheryl Woods was described as "a loving mother, doting grandmother, cherished sister, and a dear friend." The tribute added: "Sarha Smith, in the footsteps of her mother, unselfishly devoted herself to her family's needs ahead of her own.
"Her absence leaves a void for those who relied on her radiant presence."
