M42 severe delays as crash closes Midlands motorway

Drivers are being warned to expect hour long delays following the closure of a Midlands motorway. The southbound carriageway of the M42 in Warwickshire[1] is shut at junction nine due to a collision. Emergency work is underway to recover a lorry which overturned around 6am on Monday (Dec 16).

National Highways Midlands said delays are taking an hour. National Highways Midlands said: "The #M42 in #Warwickshire remains closed southbound within J9 (#Curdworth) due to a collision. Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.

"There are delays of at least 60 minutes on approach, please allow extra journey time. Thank you for your patience." Traffic Provider Inrix said: "M42 Southbound closed, severe delays due to overturned vehicle at J9 A4097 Kingsbury Road (Curdworth / Coleshill).

Congestion to before J10 (Tamworth[3]). "Accident involving two vehicles just after 06:00 this morning. Diversion - via the exit and entry slips."

There was no word on any injuries.

Diversions are being signposted and traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.
