Video footage has captured the shocking moment a driver crashed their car on a jam-packed London[2] ring-road after doing a U-turn to allegedly escape police.

The incident took place on the A406 near the Brent Cross Interchange in London at around 11am today.

A witness told MailOnline that police stopped a car they suspected of displaying a fake number plate.

Instead of co-operating, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene -- and appeared to make a U-turn on the busy ring-road.

The witness said the vehicle then struck another car, leaving onlookers stunned.

Video footage showed the dark grey Hyundai travelling the wrong way on the dual carriageway, weaving around a lorry and cars which were stationary.

The driver can then be seen mounting the pavement and swerving between two lampposts before crashing into a road sign.

A witness, who captured the crash on video, caught up with the car.

Damage had been caused to the car's front bumper and its right wheel after it collided with the post.

Two people were seen stumbling out of the right side of the vehicle shortly after the crash.

Police quickly arrived at the scene to apprehend the suspect, followed by ambulance crews to assess for any potential injuries, the witness added.

Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
