An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Essex Police is committed to keeping the county's roads safe for everyone using them and we use a range of tactics from education and prevention work to prosecuting offenders. Our team of dedicated Speed Enforcement officers travel the county, targeting areas where there are concerns from the public.
Roads Policing Unit officers hold speed checks at static sites on the strategic road networks. We also monitor all the county's roads across the cities, towns and villages and our more rural roads. "Our Vision Zero Days target the Fatal Four offences (speeding/seatbelts/drink and drug driving or mobile phones) in identified hot spot areas.
We also work with schools to reduce speeding outside school premises and support Community Speedwatch. And the force's Commercial Vehicle Unit target HGVs on an ongoing basis. We are a key part of the Safer Essex Roads Partnership - which leads on the reduction of death and serious injury on Essex roads towards zero.
"SERP also hosts Extra Eyes, where the public can upload dashcam footage, and we will take appropriate action. We work with partners across the county to make roads safer for everyone. Speed limits are there for a reason, for everyone's safety.
It is a limit, not a target!
Speeding is a known contributing factor in killed and seriously injured collisions.
