These Worcestershire speed cameras hand out the most fines

Data gathered from multiple Freedom of Information requests submitted by Worcester News to West Mercia Police revealed Worcestershire's busiest speed cameras over the last three years. READ MORE: Here are where all the fixed speed cameras are in Worcestershire[1] Police revealed the most active cameras were poised on the M5, with all of the top three in 2022 and 2024 being on a similar stretch.

The only anomaly to this trend was in 2023 when Wolverhampton Road in Kidderminster was ranked the third busiest camera that year. In 2024, the 50mph temporary speed limit between Junction 6 (Worcester South) and Junction 4a (M42) on the M5 caught nearly the most speeding drivers that year. However, it failed to beat Junction 8 (Strensham)which had a temporary speed limit for roadworks, which ranked the highest in terms of the tickets it issued. Previously speaking to the Worcester News, Chief Inspector Jake Wright from West Mercia Police said: "While the majority of drivers and riders use the roads responsibly, there are many families that unfortunately know far too well the devastating consequences that speeding and collisions can lead to, and many residents whose quality of life is affected by people speeding through their community. "Speed limits are in place for a reason.

"If prosecuted for speeding, the minimum penalty is a GBP100 fine and three penalty points." Altogether, West Mercia Police revealed that it issued 119,737 speeding tickets in the past three years - 27,397 of which were gathered this year between January 1 and October 31, 2024.  In these three years, 6,161 involved a fixed penalty fine, totalling at least GBP610,100 to those who plead guilty to the offences.

However, this does not include the number of people prosecuted, which may make this figure much higher. Around 4,932 drivers between January 1, 2022, and October 31, 2024, were prosecuted by West Mercia Police for speeding. West Mercia Police finds enforcing the speed limit and making the roads safer a 24/7 priority across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Fixed speed cameras are placed in locations across Worcestershire, which has a history of speed-related collisions and casualties.

The presence of a permanently fixed camera aims to encourage motorists to change their behaviour and drive at a lower, safer speed, improving the safety of the road for all those who use it.
