Police at Leyland Railway Station overnightA number of trains were cancelled and people stranded on delays services after reports of a person hit by a train on the rail network. Emergency services could be seen at Leyland Railway Station until the early hours of this morning (1 December) after an incident on Saturday evening. The nature of that incident has not been confirmed by British Transport Police and Northern Rail have not addressed queries from customers, but multiple witnesses caught up in delays told Blog Preston they were informed of a person being struck by a train on the line.
Trains from Manchester Piccadilly heading north were either delayed or cancelled as a result, leading a number of people to seek alternative travel by Uber - or face delays of several hours on already-moving services. One person reported being stuck on a rail service at Blackrod at 1.30am having departed Manchester at 10pm. Another was delayed until 3am at Chorley.

The scenes at platform 14 at Manchester Piccadilly - where services heading north into Lancashire are managed - were highly congested with British Transport Police forced to manage the crowds on and off services. Blog Preston has contacted British Transport Police for more information. Delays and cancellations are expected to continue into Sunday on Northern services in the North West due to 'train crew not being available'.
Many lines are operating limited bus rail replacement services instead. Subscribe: Keep in touch directly with the latest headlines from Blog Preston, join our WhatsApp channel[8] and subscribe for our twice-a-week email newsletter[9]. Both free and direct to your phone and inbox.
