A52 Grantham: Road was closed for three hours after lorry hit bridge

The A52 was closed[1] in both directions for around three hours after a lorry hit a bridge[2]. The railway bridge on Barrowby Road, Grantham[3] was struck by a vehicle shortly before 10.30am on Thursday, January 9. The road was blocked in both directions between Mount Street and Green Hill Road.

Lincolnshire Police confirms it was called to the scene at 10.22am after it received a report of a collision at the low bridge at the roundabout with Asda and Sankt Augustin Way. An update on traffic monitoring site Inrix at the time stated: "A52 Barrowby Road in both directions blocked, very slow traffic due to bridge struck by vehicle between Mount Street and Green Hill Road." A photo from the scene shows a lorry that caught the top of the bridge.

There is a low bridge warning it has a height of 4.3m and is not suitable for tall vehicles. The bridge was assessed for damage before it later reopened to traffic at 1.20pm. We covered this incident live.
