CCTV footage shows crash that killed lorry driver on M27
The M27 was shut for days after speeding drug driver, Ross Neiland, came tearing down the motorway near junction five at 93 miles per hour in a Volkswagen Polo despite heavy rain. As seen the footage released by Hampshire police, Neiland ploughed into a Nissan Juke on the motorway which caused it to slam into a lorry, forcing it through the crash barrier and into the concrete support for the overhead gantry. Lorry driver, Michal Kaminski, 36, was killed instantly as his lorry smashed through the crash barrier and hit the concrete gantry.
The gantry camera shows the moment of impact, as well as Neiland skidding across the carriageway in the wet weather conditions. Accompanied by two passengers, the trio had been on a "shoplifting spree" in Portsmouth earlier that day. In the moments after the crash, Neiland was seen taking the stolen goods out the back of the car in a bid to hide them from police.
He was restrained by people who stopped at the scene and responded aggressively by "spitting" in the direction of a man. Hampshire police have released footage showing the shocking crash that closed the M27 for days last year. -- Ross Marshall (@RossMarshall87) January 22, 2025[3]Neiland's driving was described as "absolutely idiotic" by a witness travelling on the M27 on February 21 last year, but Neiland, of Old Market Lane, Littlehampton, showed no remorse for his actions when in the dock at Southampton Crown Court.
He was also on cocaine and sentencing Judge Peter Henry described the crash as 'utterly avoidable'. In a victim impact statement read out in court, the lorry driver's younger brother Rafal Kaminski, who lived with him in Salisbury, said: "You took from me not just my brother but my best friend, and a part of me. "I miss him every day.
I cannot manage living without him.
I hope there will be justice for my brother."
The carriageway was closed for two days in the wake of the crash as work to make the area safe was undertaken.
