Crash shuts major Monmouthshire road

An accident involving a lorry and a tree closed the A40 in Monmouthshire for a time on Tuesday afternoon. Traffic cameras showed emergency services at the scene and traffic being held between Monmouth and Raglan Gwent Police said "Diversions are in place which may cause congestion.

A spokesperson for the force said they were called at 12.10pm and added that only "minor injuries" had been reported.

At just after 2pm, one lane remains closed as recovery teams deal with a spillage caused during the accident.

All lanes were reopened by just after 2.30pm and traffic in the area had returned to normal for the time of day.
