Cyclist left with life-threatening injuries after crash on A6 in Lancashire

A cyclist suffered serious head injuries after being thrown from his bike when it was hit by a van on a major road. The incident was on the A6 at Catterall between The Avenue and Old Lancaster[1] Road just after 8.30pm last night. Ambulance crews and police attended.

A Peugeot van was heading north when it collided with the back of the cycle, a Carrera racing bike, said Lancashire Police. The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was thrown from the bike and suffered a 'serious head injury'.

He remains in hospital and is condition is described as "critical". Police said the van stopped at the scene and an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The force is appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam and ring doorbell or mobile phone footage to come forward.

Sgt Pete Fyans, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "This collision has left a man with some very serious injuries, and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident itself or who has any CCTV, dashcam, Ring doorbell or mobile footage to get in touch.

I am also keen to speak to anyone who saw the cyclist in the moments prior to the collision."
