Drink driver swerving lorry on A14 ‘put innocent lives at risk’
A drink driver who was seen swerving his lorry across the A14 has been banned from the roads. A court heard Jaroslaw Tekieli was more than twice the legal alcohol limit. The 58-year-old was spotted by other drivers on the eastbound A14[1], near Molesworth, at about 5.30pm on January 8.
He was stopped by police on the A1198 just south of Godmanchester[2] and breathalysed. He blew 86 at the roadside and 66 in custody - with the legal limit being 35. Tekieli, of Castleton Avenue, Ilkeston, Derbyshire admitted driving while over the prescribed limit and dangerous driving.
On Friday (January 10) at Cambridge Magistrates' Court[3] he was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for 12 months. He was also banned from driving for two years and ordered to take an extended re-test and complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Police left 'lost for words'
PC Sam Holliday said: "I am lost for words for why Tekieli thought it would be a good idea to get behind the wheel of an articulated lorry after drinking. He put innocent lives at risk and I would like to thank the motorists who called us and kept us updated of his location."
Cambridgeshire[4] Constabulary operates a dedicated, confidential hotline - 0800 032 0845 - which is available 24/7 and and can be used to provide information about anyone who may be driving under the influence.
Crimes in action should always be reported to police by calling 999.
