Five crashes near Chippenham as roads covered in ice

The roads around Chippenham and Lacock became gridlocked on Tuesday morning, January 7, after multiple incidents took place due to icy and snow on the roads. It occurred after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ice and snow, and warned of possible delays. "We are dealing with five vehicle accidents due to the weather conditions this morning, please slow down and allow extra time for your journey," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.

"The A350 is busy at Lacock southbound due to a lorry shedding its load. "Access to Chippenham from the Lackham roundabout is blocked. "Please ensure your vehicle windows are clear and snow is removed from the roof of your vehicle."

Although weather warnings are set to clear by Wednesday, temperatures will remain below 0 for the rest of the week and drivers are being urged to take extra care on the roads. A spokesperson for the Met Office[1] said: "Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.

"Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey.

Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary."
