Frazer Higgins jailed after ramming police motorbike and car in Faversham chase

Dramatic footage shows a police officer runnning to safety just moments before a truck driver rammed into his motorbike. The incident happened on September 23 and followed a pursuit of the flat-bed vehicle near the M2 in Faversham. [embedded content]

Frazer Higgins was asked to stop by a police motorcyclist near junction seven as it was suspected he was driving a flatbed van unlawfully. But the 31-year-old continued driving and a chase ensued. On a rural road, Higgins braked his vehicle before reversing at speed straight into the bike.

The officer was forced to jump off and run to safety in woodland next to the road, the hair-raising moment captured on bodycam footage. A patrol car was then targeted by Higgins, who swerved his van along the road before again reversing it into the police vehicle and causing significant damage.

He abandoned his van a short while later near a residential property and fled the scene. The chase continued on foot, and Higgins was arrested outside an address in Egbert Road, Faversham.

Last week, on January 22 at Canterbury Crown Court, Higgins was jailed for two and a half years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and other driving offences.

He will also face a driving ban upon his release from prison. Det Con Ellis Langford said: "Higgins should not even have been behind the wheel that day and his deplorable conduct whilst driving could have had devastating consequences.

"I am pleased that he has been given a custodial sentence.

"I would like to thank the members of the public who stopped to offer assistance to the police officer forced from his bike that day, and also pay special regard to the witnesses who helped secure Higgins' conviction and remove a dangerous driver from Kent's roads."
