Leicestershire’s ‘most bashed’ bridge hit again
Bridge was hit 15 times in the year to March 2024
Today's incident has added to a long list of past bridge strikes. According to National Highways, the A5 railway bridge was hit 15 times in the year to the end of March 2024. In the five years up to September 2022, the bridge was struck 88 times[1], delaying 246 trains in total as well as thousands of motorists.
It's a situation so bad that the former Transport Secretary Louise Haigh even acknowledged prior to her resignation that the bridge "needs some attention"[2].
