Live M6 traffic updates as crash leaves motorway closed
The M6 motorway has reopened after being closed following a crash in Staffordshire this morning (Friday, January 24). The southbound carriageway was shut to traffic between Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent) and Junction 14 (Stafford). The closure was first reported shortly before 4am - with the road reopening at around 4.20am.
Two vehicles are involved. Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "Two lanes closed due to accident on M6 Southbound from J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-on-Trent) to J14 A34 (Stafford North). Two lanes have reopened past the scene.
Lanes one and two (of four) remain closed. " A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Crews from Newcastle & Hanley have attended a 2 vehicle RTC on M6 Southbound between junctions 15 to 14 just after Stafford Services.
1 man was trapped in van by steering wheel and now removed from vehicle by fire service crews and transported to hospital by Ambulance crew." A National Highways spokesperson said: "Traffic released on the M6 southbound between J15 Stoke-on-Trent and J14 Stafford with emergency services having now left scene.
2 lanes (of 4) remain closed for recovery with delays of up to 45 minutes on approach."
