A male pedestrian has died after a serious incident with a truck on the M1 motorway with commuters warned to expect major delays on the northbound lanes.

Paramedics found the man with life-threatening injuries at Yatala, in Queensland's Gold Coast, at 12.49am on Thursday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene with a second patient taken to Gold Coast[1] University Hospital in a stable condition.

'Investigations continue into the nature of the traffic incident; however, the death is being considered non-suspicious,' a Queensland[2] Police spokesman said.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner in relation to the incident.

The northbound lanes opened just after 8am on Thursday.

Drivers were previously warned all northbound traffic was being diverted at the Yatala South Exit and to find an alternative route with delays of up to two hours.

Traffic was backed up to Helensvale with peak-hour commuters warned delays would continue into the morning on Thursday.
