M1 junction 25 live updates as traffic builds after ‘multi-vehicle crash’

Motorists faced "severe delays" on the M1 in Nottinghamshire[1] this morning (Wednesday, January 22) after reports of a multi-vehicle crash. Three out of four lanes[2] were shut heading southbound on the motorway between junctions 25 and 24. Traffic was briefly held while recovery work took place, leading to delays of well over an hour. All lanes were eventually reopened at around 9.20am.

Live highways cameras and traffic monitoring sites showed large queues forming as many motorists made their commute to work. An image taken from a motorway camera showed four vehicles - three cars and a van - are within the coned off lanes, suggesting they were involved in the collision. A post on traffic monitoring website Inrix said: "Three lanes closed and queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident on M1 Southbound from J25 A52 Brian Clough Way (Nottingham / Derby) to J24 A453 Ashby Road (Nottingham South / East Midlands Airport).

"Lanes one, three and four (of four)."

This is a breaking news story.
