M6 driver has lucky escape after van smashes into broken-down car

The occupants of a car had a lucky esape after their vehicle broke down on the M6. Police have said that they exited the car and found a place of safety - as is advised in such situations. A van then crashed into the stationary vehicle, causing extensive damage.

But because they had left the car, the driver and passengers were thankfully saved from injury. Staffordshire[1] Police shared a picture of the aftermath of the crash on social media. A spokesperson for the force said that it showed how important it is to exit a broken down vehicle on a motorway.

POLL: Would you feel safe travelling in a driverless shuttle?[2] They added: "This [picture] highlights the importance of exiting your vehicle if you breakdown. Thankfully, the occupants of this vehicle did just that before the van drove into it, avoiding any injury.

"M6 13-12 SB @PoliceStafford Hazards, exit vehicle, call for help #OpLightning #Team4RCT."
