Man and his dog killed after being knocked down on the A1 at Berwick
A man in his 40s and his dog died after being knocked down on the A1 on Wednesday at Berwick. Northumbria Police[1] is now appealing for public help as officers investigate what happened. The incident was reported to the police at around 7.40pm on Wednesday and took place on the A1 in North Northumberland[2].
Police were told a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian. It was reported a yellow Citroen DS3 had been travelling northbound when it struck a pedestrian and dog, believed to have been on the road. Both the man and the dog - a Cocker Spaniel - were declared dead at the scene by the emergency services.
His next of kin have been informed. The driver of the Citroen remained at the scene and is assisting with the police investigation. Northumbria Police officers are now asking anyone travelling in the area at the time to come forward with what they know - especially if they have dashcam or CCTV footage of what happened.
