Man dies after A19 crash involving pedestrian and two vehicles

A man has died following a crash involving a pedestrian and two vehicles on the A19[1]. The collision took place on the northbound carriageway around half a mile from the A689 on-slip (Wolviston[2] services). Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.55pm, on Saturday, January 4.

Cleveland Police[3] confirmed the crash involved a male pedestrian who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene and two vehicles; a Vauxhall Corsa and Vauxhall Movano van. A force spokesperson said: "The man's family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time. "A formal identification process is yet to take place." Teesside Live previously reported the A19 was shut in both directions for around six hours overnight.[4]

At the time Cleveland Police[5] asked drivers to find alternate routes during the overnight closure and warned motorists to avoid the area.

The road reopened just after 5am on Sunday, January 5. Photos taken at the scene, at around 12.30am, show investigations ongoing with officers using torches to search the carriageway and grassed verges. Any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage of the incident, are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number SE25002185.

Officers are also appealing to anyone who may have seen a male, dressed in dark clothing, walking along the A19, Durham Road, A1027 or Junction Road between 5:30pm and 8:55pm on Saturday 4th January 2025. Dash cam footage can also be uploaded here[6].
