Pensioner in life-threatening condition after A346 crash
Emergency services were called to the A346 Salisbury Road, Marlborough, at around 1:15pm on Tuesday, January 21 after receiving reports of an incident involving four vehicles. A lorry travelling in the Burbage direction stopped to turn right at Browns Farm and it is believed that three vehicles behind it slowed down, before a Kia Sorento collided with the van at the back of the line. The Kia crossed the road and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.
The driver and front passenger of the Kia, a man and a woman in their 70s, are being treated for serious injuries at Salisbury District Hospital. An air ambulance was called to the incident and South Western Ambulance Service has confirmed three people were taken to hospital in total. A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 13:19hrs on Tuesday 21 January to a road traffic collision in Marlborough.
"We sent four double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance, an operations officer, a doctor, and a tactical commander to the scene. We conveyed three patients by land ambulances to Salisbury District Hospital." Two fire service crews - one from Swindon and one from Pewsey - were also on scene.
They used hydraulic cutting equipment to help paramedics treat those injured in their vehicles. A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 1.20pm today (21 January) to Salisbury Hill, Marlborough to assist the police with a four-vehicle road traffic collision. "Two crews attended; one from Pewsey and one from Swindon.
Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to help provide better access for the ambulance service. Our stop came in at 2.42pm." SEE ALSO: Serial shoplifter jailed and banned from shops across Wiltshire[2]
