A4538 Pershore Lane: Police stinger used on ‘car thieves’

Three people were arrested after the stop just off the M5 in Worcester in connection with the theft of a pick-up truck from Evesham on Saturday (February 15). A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Officers from the Operation Policing Unit (OPU) tracked a Kia Sportage on cloned plates that was in close convoy with a Ford Ranger that had been taken from a car garage in the early hours of Saturday. "The Kia linked to the car theft was spotted around 8.40pm that night and was successfully stung on Pershore Lane off the M5, junction 6.

A stinger is a spike strip that is placed along the road to puncture the tyres of vehicles and stop them in their tracks.

Police have not been able to recover the Ford Ranger. The spokesperson added: "Three men, aged 21, 32 and 33, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and the driver was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

"All three have now been bailed with conditions pending further enquiries."
