A590: Driver taken to hospital after collision between a car and a van

The incident happened on the A590 close to Newland Garage in Ulverston just after 1pm with the road blocked from Next Ness Lane to Alpine Road. The collision involved a car and a van with the driver of the car taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was blocked eastbound while recovery of a vehicle took place and emergency services worked at the scene. Speaking at the time of the incident, a spokesperson for Cumbria police said: "A report came in at 1:07pm of a two vehicle collision involving a car and a van on Newland Road to Greenodd on the A590. "The road appears to be blocked eastbound while recovery of a vehicle takes place.

"Emergency services currently at scene. "Driver of the car taken to hospital with injuries though not thought to be life- threatening. "Motorists are advised to avoid the area/use alternative routes."

Emergency vehicles left the scene at 2.15pm with the road re-opening fully around 2:45pm, however heavy delays in traffic will still experienced for hours afterwards. At 3.20pm, another motorist said: "I've been sitting in very slow/stopped traffic for about 45 mins.

Still not really moving."

Delays of ten minutes in both directions were reported up until 4pm when the AA Route planner reported the route to be clear.
