Baby fighting for life after M1 crash in Bedfordshire as police arrest two drivers

A baby suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorway crash over which two men have been arrested.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the smash on the M1 in Bedfordshire at about 2.15pm on Friday.

Three people - a man in his 40s, a woman in her 20s, and a baby - were taken to hospital for treatment.

The woman, who sustained serious injuries, and the baby, remained in hospital, said Bedfordshire Police on Monday.

The crash happened on the northbound exit slip road at junction 11 and involved a black Audi, a white Iveco van, and a white Nissan van.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was being questioned by police, said the force.

A second man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving, and was bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Insp Garry Webb from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire's serious collision investigation unit said: "This was a very serious incident, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.

"We especially want to hear from anyone who may have seen these vehicles before the collision or has dashcam footage that could assist our investigation."

Anyone with information should report online at beds.police.uk/ro/report[1] or call 101, quoting Operation Athletico.
