Dog dies on A419 after police pursuit ends in crash

A dog died on the A419 in the aftermath of the collision. At around 11.30pm on Friday, February 14, officers were authorised to pursue a black BMW X5 which failed to stop for them on Great Western Way. The fleeing vehicle travelled at speed through Cheney Manor to the Penhill area and then crashed into a parked vehicle on Duchess Way, where it overturned.

Two dogs which were in the BMW[6] escaped and ran towards the A419, where one of the animals was then fatally struck by a car driven by a member of the public.

At the end of the police pursuit, officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence, driving without third-party insurance, and further arrested for theft.

They also arrested a 27-year-old man for drug driving and driving without insurance or a valid licence.

They have both been bailed while enquiries continue.
