Driver dies in Royal Stoke after two-vehicle smash
An elderly driver died in hospital following a two-vehicle crash. The 92-year-old was rushed to the Royal Stoke where he passed away hours after the collision on the A51 in Hixon[1]. He had been driving a white Nissan Qashqai when it collided with a white Peugeot van at 3.40pm on Monday (February 3).
The van driver was taken to Stafford's County Hospital for non-serious injuries. A police investigation is now underway. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a small van on the A51 nearby to Church Lane junction in Ingestre, Stafford.
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene. "Upon arrival we found two men who were the drivers of the vehicles. The driver of the car had sustained serious injuries.
He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the van was assessed and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to Stafford County Hospital."
A Staffordshire Police[2] spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after a man sadly died following a collision. We were called to the A51 in Hixon. Officers attended and a white Nissan Qashqai had been involved in a collision with a white Peugeot van.
"Colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene to help remove the car driver from their vehicle. The driver of the Nissan was taken to hospital by ambulance. He sadly died in hospital later that evening.
His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time." Any witnesses should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 428 of 3 February.[3]
