A Ford Focus 'hit a police car' and rolled down embankment off the M6[1]. It followed a police chase that started in the Cheshire area. It continued towards Warwickshire and led to members of the Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) using specialist tactics, known as TPAC Box, to stop the car at the top of the slip road near to the entrance to Moto Services in Rugby.
The car reportedly hit a police car before driving off the road down a steep embankment, getting stuck. As a result of the incident during the early hours of Monday January 27, a man was arrested.
Martin Mew, 36 and from Crewe in Cheshire, was charged with domestic ABH assault, intentional strangulation, failure to provide a sample of breath, careless driving, no driving licence and no insurance.
He was remanded in custody and appeared at Warwickshire[4] Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 28.
The case was committed to Crown Court and Mew was released on court bail with conditions.
