Inquest opens into death of motorcyclist killed in A487 crash

A motorcyclist died after colliding with a car, an inquest heard today. Jonathan Rigby, 47, of Newborough on Anglesey[1], was killed, following a road accident on the A487 at the junction with Penrhos Road near Bangor[2]. He was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd[3] in Bangor but died there on January 30 this year.

Kate Robertson, senior coroner for north west Wales, said Mr Rigby's motorbike had collided with the car. A doctor confirmed he died at 8.02am at Ysbyty Gwynedd. She said she asked Home Office consultant forensic pathologist Dr Brian Rodgers to carry out a post mortem examination.

He gave a provisional cause of death as severe head and neck injuries. Ms Robertson said North Wales Police is still investigating the collision. She therefore adjourned the inquest into Mr Rigby's death to a later date. You can sign up for all the latest court stories here[6].[4][5]

Addressing his family at the hearing into the death of the Bangor-born lorry driver, she said: "I would like to pass on my sincere condolences towards all the family and friends of Mr Rigby." Mr Rigby, who was known as Jon, was a "music-loving, healthy, active man, devoted husband and father to their daughter, sons and grandfather to their two granddaughters". His family paid this tribute[7] to him last week: "Jon had recently moved to Anglesey to live out his dreams with his loving wife but tragically, this is now no longer a possibility.

"As a family, we now need time to grieve the man we have lost and the future we will now no longer be able to have.

We would all like to pass on our sincere thanks to all the first responders, off duty doctors and nurses and by-standers who provided medical assistance in such a difficult situation.
