M42 crash: Two cars and HGV collide near Birmingham Airport
National Highways took to social media shortly after 11am this morning (February 17) to confirm that traffic was being held on the M42 southbound between Junction 6 for Birmingham Airport and Junction 5 for Solihull as fire crews worked to recover a car that had flipped on to its roof. West Midlands Fire Service said they were called to the crash at 10.46am and sent two fire engines, one from Sheldon and one from Bickenhill. A spokesperson for the force said: "Two cars and one HGV were involved in a collision.
"All occupants of the vehicles got themselves out. One car that was on its roof had to be recovered from the middle lane. "No injuries were reported."

-- National Highways: West Midlands (@HighwaysWMIDS) February 17, 2025[6]West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they were initially called to the incident but were stood down before they arrived. A spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an RTC at Junction 5 of the M42 Southbound near Knowle. "We assigned an ambulance to the scene, however, we were stood down prior to arrival, as we were no longer required."
West Midlands Fire Service said police did not attend the incident.
Traffic was held whilst the recovery took place, causing tailbacks of four miles on approach to the junction.
National Highways said the motorway reopened shortly before 12pm.
