M6 driver leaves police gobsmacked after ‘breaking three laws at once’
A van driver was left needing to arrange their own transport after police seized their vehicle. It came after officers spotted the driver breaking traffic rules on a motorway. Staffordshire[1] Police[2] officers revealed how they came across the white van on the motorway[3].
Officers witnessed the driver speeding in excess of 80mph while towing a trailer in the outside lane on the M6. The incident took place before J15, Hanchurch, and J16, Barthomley Interchange. Officers[4] pulled the van driver and also discovered the driver did not have any insurance. Get breaking news on BirminghamLive WhatsApp[6], click the link to join
As a result, the van was seized, the trailer removed and the driver was reported. StaffsRCT said on X/Twitter: "This vehicle was initially sighted towing a trailer (don't worry it hasn't fallen off) on the M6 between J16 and J15 in excess of 80mph in the outside lane. "When stopped, the driver has no insurance.
Trailer removed, driver reported and vehicle seized."
In the UK, speeding is class as an offence under Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
It's illegal to tow a trailer while in the outside lane and drive without insurance.
