Map reveals Wycombe’s speed camera hotspots with two A-roads catching 22,000 drivers

The town's top two speed camera hotspots between 2019 and 2023 were the A40 London Road, which racked up 11,901 offences, and the A40 West Wycombe Road, which had 10,073. Both of the 30mph locations are fixed sites - those covered by a static camera in a box, which is usually yellow in colour, as opposed to 'mobile' sites, which are visited by a safety camera van. In total, the offences at 22 speed camera sites in and around Wycombe have been mapped using publicly available data from Thames Valley Police's road traffic web page.

The speed camera with the third most offences during the five-year period was Treadaway Hill in Flackwell Heath, a mobile site which caught a total of 5,695 drivers. Two fixed sites were fourth and fifth, the A4010 New Road and the A4010 Chapel Lane, which saw 5,416 and 3,499 offences respectively. The offences recorded have either progressed through to a fixed penalty notice process to conclusion or been sent forward for court proceedings.

Drivers who receive a fixed penalty notice and plead guilty pay a GBP100 fine and have three points added to their licence. Those who plead not guilty have to attend court, although the outcomes of court proceedings are not recorded by Thames Valley Police. A spokesperson for the force told the Bucks Free Press: "All mobile speed enforcement equipment is maintained by Thames Valley Police.

"Cameras used in fixed housings, digital and analogue, are maintained by Thames Valley Police. Analogue fixed housings are maintained by the relevant highway authority. Digital camera poles are maintained by Thames Valley Police."

The force says it does not have information on court fines, with money from speeding fines paid to His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service. Although some of Thames Valley Police's speed cameras in Wycombe caught thousands of drivers from 2019 to 2023, others did not record a single offence in that time. These included Hithercroft Road, Sawpit Hill in Hazelmere, the B474 Elm Road in Penn and Desborough Avenue.

Meanwhile, a mobile speed camera on Wycombe's A404 Marlow Hill caught 763 drivers in 2019, according to police data, however no offences were registered at this location for the other four years.

Thames Valley Police was asked about its '0' values for different locations and whether this meant speed cameras at these locations had been decommissioned.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The '0' values mean there is no record of any offences having been detected."
