Pedestrian dies after M5 crash which shut motorway for hours

A pedestrian has died after a crash reported to have also involved a lorry and a car on the M5[1]. Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that a man in his 50s died at the scene of the crash yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, February 26) and that his family have been notified. Lengthy investigation work was carried out on the motorway following the crash which happened at around 2.40pm between junction 24 for Bridgwater and junction 25 for Taunton.

It caused both the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M5[2] to be closed for several hours. They were reopened at around 6.15pm and 9.30pm, respectively. The AA reported that the crash involved a pedestrian, a lorry and a car.[3] No information has been released regarding drivers and passengers travelling in the vehicles.

The crash caused hours of gridlock on the M5 in both directions and traffic had to be diverted.
