Pickup truck crashes into level crossing near Powys border
Emergency services were called out to the scene of a pickup truck that had hit the barrier of a level crossing on the A49 in Onibury, near Knighton and Bishop's Castle, and ended up on its side along the railway tracks. Emergency services received a call reporting the crash at 6.50pm on Tuesday, February 18, with police, fire service and an ambulance dispatched to the scene. Train services were suspended on the line with Network Rail saying they were to resume this morning (Wednesday, February 19).
MOST READ: Shropshire Fire and Rescue crews from Church Stretton were at the scene and were able to extract the driver from the vehicle, who was then left in the care of West Midlands Ambulance Service. Shortly after the incident, a spokesperson for Church Stretton Fire Station said: "RTC incident tonight for the Church Stretton crew on the level crossing at A49 Onibury.
(Image: Church Stretton Fire Station) "One vehicle has hit the barrier and come to rest on it's side covering both railway tracks. "Managed extraction of the one driver from the vehicle who is now being seen by the ambulance personnel.
"This A49 will be closed for some time while the vehicle is recovered and the railway lines then inspected."
