Police car crashes into Stanley A693 roundabout near Asda

The cop car was pictured with its hazard lights on in the middle of the circular junction outside Asda in Stanley on the A693 on Saturday (February 1) evening. Officers were following a "suspicious" car when they "struck" the roundabout, Durham Constabulary confirmed. One officer was taken to hospital to be checked over, and the other officer in the car was uninjured. It happened at about 5.25pm. A recovery truck was brought in to take away the damaged car.

It looked like it had hit the bushes and trees in the middle. "It had its hazards flashing and you could tell people were slowing down to try and see what was going on." No other cars were involved in the crash.

In a statement, Durham Police said: "A police car has been involved in a collision on the A693 in Stanley. Click here to join our WhatsApp community and get breaking news updates direct to your phone.[1] "The officers were following a suspicious vehicle when they struck the roundabout near the bus station just before 5.25pm yesterday evening (February 1).

"One officer was taken to hospital as a precaution, while the other was uninjured.

"No other vehicles were involved in the collision."
