Police explain reason for closure of Leicestershire’s A6
Officers from Leicestershire Police[1] have revealed why they had to close a major county route on Monday night. The incident led to all lanes of the A6 being shut for a time. The incident happened at around 8pm last night (Monday, February 17) in the Barrow upon Soar area, prompting a full closure of the A6 between Leicester and Loughborough[2].
All vehicles were stopped by police. In a statement issued today (Tuesday, February 18), officers have now revealed the reason behind the closure. A spokesperson confirmed it related to safety concerns for a person on the bridge over the A6.
The spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a bridge on the A6 in Barrow-upon-Soar around 7.55pm yesterday following concerns about the welfare of a woman who was on the wrong side of the bridge.
The woman was subsequently taken to a place of safety.
Road closures were in place during the incident."
