Revealed: The speed camera that caught the most motorists in Norwich
The figures, which were released after a Freedom of Information (FOI) request was submitted, showed that the Dereham Road inbound camera close to the BP garage near New Costessey snapped 1,754 drivers in 2024. The minimum fine for speeding is GBP100 and, assuming everyone caught paid this amount, this single camera would have earned the government just under GBP200,000 in penalty charges. Sharon Blundell, councillor for Costessey, says she receives numerous complaints from city folk about speeding in the Costessey area. "Speeding is an issue everywhere, not just Costessey, but I seem to get more emails regarding speeding in 20mph residential roads as these are never enforced. "I am amazed how so many people can be caught speeding by a fixed camera that has been in place for many years.
"A new way of enforcing and educating drivers on speeds needs to come forward." Surprisingly, the outbound camera on the same road did not come up second in regards to motorists caught. Instead this was the camera on the A140 in Mile End Road, which captured 1,536 offences.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Constabulary said: "The roads policing teams regularly conduct speed enforcement checks at sites across Norfolk and would be included in the data provided in the FOI.
"Our officers also actively support community speed watch teams across the county."
